An SA family’s holiday in Bali has turned into a nightmare when their four-year-old sustained severe head injuries after falling from a treehouse at their accommodation earlier this month.

Marigold Jessie McCallum suffered a fractured skull and internal bleeding, undergoing emergency surgery to alleviate pressure on her brain.

She was flown back to Australia, where she remains in intensive care at Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

A GoFundMe has been set up by her aunty, Sophie McInnerney, to help support the family in their time of need and support Marigold’s recovery journey.

Ms McInnerney said it was not Marigold’s first time in the hospital, having spent the first 100 days of her life hospitalised after being born prematurely.

The four-year-old’s “incredible fighting (and feisty) spirit” and “brave soul” has been a constant, along with the presence of her parents, Nick and Carly, there to hold her hand through her “long road ahead to recovery”.

The fundraiser description reads, “This experience has and will continue to take its toll on Nick and Carly on so many levels and they are going to need a lot of love and support to get through this.”

“Please don’t feel obligated to donate but if you would like to contribute, we would be most grateful and feel this is the best way we can support them at this time.”

Support for Marigold has been ringing in from all around, including the Adelaide Crows who donated a signed guernsey to the family’s local footy club – Booleroo Melrose Wilmington Lions Football Club – with all proceeds going towards her cause.

In an Instagram post, the club said “The BMW Lions family will do whatever we can to support Nick, Carly, Billie and Goldie and wrap our arms around them at this time.”

The Northern Areas Netball Association also offered their support in a Facebook post saying: “The netball community extends its deepest support to Carly and Nick McCallum following a tragic accident to their daughter during a family holiday in Bali. Carly has always been a proud supporter of netball in our region and her Mum Millie Foulis, a NANA Life Member.”

The GoFundMe has currently raised about $57,000 towards their $90,000 goal.
