Pools have been filled at the new $135m Adelaide Aquatic Centre for the first time in a milestone during the construction of the project.
The 50m and Learn to Swim indoor pools have been filled over several days in a test of their capacity to retain water.
They were filled with a combined three million litres of water.
Infrastructure Minister Tom Koutsantonis said seeing the milestone was “fantastic”.
“It’s one thing to see the foundations of these pools laid, but to see them full of water is a real sign that this commitment is taking shape,” Mr Koutsantonis said.
“We’re creating an iconic new centre that will meet the needs of the community and visitors for generations to come.”
New slabs were laid for three pools, including the two that were filled, in November.
The 50m and 10-lane indoor pool at the new centre will provide state-of-the-art facilities for up-and-coming athletes and will also be open for swimming carnivals and recreational use.
Work on the remaining pools, including the indoor splash zone, outdoor lagoon and 25m pool has begun and will continue into 2025.
More than 1500 jobs are being supported during the new aquatic centre project.
It is set to open to the public either late 2025 or early 2026.
