Dramatic arrest footage captured by police body-cam in which two SAPOL officers were assaulted on a beach has been released by a court.
The footage released to The Advertiser reveals the moment a male officer is dragged into the sea during a violent altercation at Christies Beach during the arrest of Andrew Kevin Gollan, 24.
Screams can be heard as one of four officers run to the water, where Gollan is wrestling in the ocean with another officer.
Gollan can be heard saying “I didn’t do nothing” before punching a female officer in the face with his fist.
As Gollan runs back to the sand, male SAPOL officer Kyle Hurcombe deploys a Taser, but misses, as he’s also struck in the face, leaving him bleeding from a broken nose.
Gollan then swings a scooter at him, which bounces off the sand.
The officer catches the scooter before Gollan approaches a woman, and collapses to the ground holding her on top of him.
Both are then arrested, while Mr Hurcombe instructs him to “put your hands behind your back now”.
Gollan can be heard saying “let me go, let me go please,” while the woman screams.
“I’ve got PTSD, please,” Gollan said.
The beach arrest on January 23, 2024, occurred after Gollan randomly approached a vehicle and smashed a window with his scooter near the Christies Beach Hotel.
He then struck a 63-year-old Morphett Vale man in the head with the scooter as he got out of the vehicle.
The victim suffered a fractured skull, ligament damage to both knees, lacerations and bruising to his body and was rushed to Flinders Medical Centre.
Gollan appeared in the District Court earlier this month, after earlier pleading guilty to two counts of assaulting a worker and one count each of resisting police officer and in doing so cause harm, aggravated causing harm with intent and damaging a building or motor vehicle.
During victim impact statements to the court, Mr Hurcombe told the court he required
multiple surgeries to repair his nose, and his children thought he looked “scary” due to the bruising.
The court heard the officer would likely require further treatment and surgeries on his nose.
The female officer struck was not injured.
The footage was released after Gollan was removed from the court dock after a profanity-laden outburst.
He is due to return to court in June.
