Adelaide United star Josh Cavallo has unveiled plans to build an inclusive hotel in Bali where guests can “truly feel free to be themselves”.

Construction has begun on Cavallohideaway, a luxurious resort in Cepaka, set to launch in late 2025.

Cavallo said the “dream” project – a joint venture with his fiance Leighton Morrell – had been in the works for over a year.

“It’s been our forever dream to create something special here, and seeing it come to life is truly surreal,” he told The Advertiser.

“Bali has always held a special place in my heart, and I’ve felt that it deserves more recognition for being a destination that embraces diversity and inclusion.

“This is a space where you can relax, connect, and experience Bali in it’s most inclusive and welcoming form, without fear or reservation.

“This vision led me to create a space where judgment is absent, and every guest can truly feel free to be themselves.”

The retreat features a spacious two-bedroom layout, which can accommodate up to four guests. There are six additional villas being developed alongside Cavallohideaway, in partnership with collaborators ALAM Villas.

“The property is designed as a tranquil and inclusive retreat, blending contemporary stone architecture with Balinese natural charm,” Cavallo said.

“The vision was to craft a space where all travellers, especially those in the LGBTQ community, to create a retreat where everyone feels welcome.”

The 25-year-old – who came out as the world’s only openly gay, male top-flight professional footballer in October 2021 – shared several concept images of the hotel, describing it as a mix of “Bali’s soul and Santorini’s heart”.

“The Santorini-inspired curves meet Bali’s natural charm with a futuristic touch,” Cavallo said.

“This is just the beginning of my sanctuary where modern design meets soulful living. Can’t wait to share more with you all soon.”

Cavallo said Morrell, an electrician by trade, had brought his “expertise and creativity” to the project.

“Much of the smart home technology and lighting reflects his personal vision,” he said.

“It has been an ambitious and rather expensive journey, requiring patience and dedication, but every step has been worth it to make this dream a reality.”

It’s been a huge year for Cavallo, one of the most recognisable faces in the sport and an outspoken advocate for the queer community.

In March he revealed on Instagram that he had become engaged to Morrell, after proposing on the hallowed turf at Coopers Stadium.

On the comeback trail from injury, Cavallo is a Ralph Lauren ambassador and is one of the faces of the global brand’s new fragrance, Polo67.
