A second person has been killed on the road during a horror start to South Australia’s Christmas holidays.

A 74-year-old woman has died after her car crashed into an embankment in the Eden Valley.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene on Springton Rd in Pewsey Vale.

Major Crash Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Roads near the incident were closed during the afternoon but have since reopened.

She is the 85th person killed on South Australian roads this year.

It came just hours after another woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash at Copley on Sunday morning.

Another woman, aged 45, was also killed in a crash in Swan Reach on Friday night.
