Meningie drug bust reveals large cannabis haul, leading to arrest of young Murray Bridge duo

A young Murray Bridge pair will face court charged with drug offences after police spotted their car driving on the highway for a very obvious reason.

A moment of good luck for police ended in a drug bust and a court date for a man and a woman when their open car boot grabbed the attention of highway cops.

The vehicle was driving with the boot open on the Princes Hwy at Meningie, when it was pulled over by police around 1.30am on Saturday.

As police approached the car, the man jumped out and tried to close the boot – however it popped open again.

Inside, police allegedly found a large stash of cannabis partially covered by a brown sheet.

A man, 25, and woman, 20, both from Murray Bridge, were arrested and charged with trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

The vehicle’s occupants were bailed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court in June.

The cannabis and a pair of secateurs was seized by police, as they continue their investigations into the incident.
