Makeup artist Ashley Renee fears fate of business after Meta suspension before store’s grand opening

An Adelaide makeup artist fears for her business’s future after Meta banned her accounts just days before her store’s grand opening.

An Adelaide makeup artist fears the fate of her business, after her Meta accounts were banned just a little ahead of her store opening on Sunday.

Ashley Renee Luscombe was all set to begin the new chapter of her makeup business with a new shopfront, Ashley Renee MUA, but that joy turned sour when she realised she could no longer access her Instagram business account.

“(The opening of the store has) definitely been a very long time coming for me,” she said.

“So I’m excited, but it has been very much overshadowed with a lot of anxiety about how I’m even going to let my clients know that I’m there.”

Her Instagram account — which had amassed close to 11,000 followers — was suspended on June 27 on the allegations of “child nudity, abuse or exploitation”.

But Ms Luscombe disputes the claim, saying she was “mortified” by the allegations.

“I thought, ‘Oh my god, how has this been misconstrued?’ All I ever post is makeup, and I panicked,” she said.

“I went down a bit of a rabbit hole on TikTok and (saw) that a wider community have been suspended for the same child exploitation reason.”

The 29-year-old artist said the majority of her clientele came from her Instagram space which she has no access to.

“So many of (my clients) have thought I’ve blocked them,” she says.

“I would get tens of emails a day and multiple bookings a day, the second my booking system opens up six months in advance

“Now I might get a booking every three or four days.”

Despite being Meta verified, with promise of support and assistance, her appeals have not been addressed and attempts to set up any backup accounts have been blocked.

“It’s super upsetting because I’ve just poured so much time and emotion (into my shop),” she said.

The Advertiser have contacted Meta for a comment.
