Two women, aged 40 and 60, reported feeling dizzy and nauseous and were treated by paramedics at the scene. They have since been cleared to return to work.

There were 38 children and 12 adult staff at the centre when it was evacuated.

Metropolitan Fire Service station officer Justin Meldrum said he was unable to find any evidence of a gas leak at the Klemzig centre.

“A woman who helps prepare the meals became overwhelmed by a metallic smell in the centres kitchen,” he said.

“But we have been unable to pinpoint it to anything.

“We used a couple of detectors to trace the source but everything was in the normal rage.

“All we can say is if it happens again to give us a call.”
