Harvest Rock Festival will close Bartels Rd from November 17-21

One of Adelaide’s busiest roads will be closed for four days for a music and wine festival – just before it’s shut for the Adelaide 500 car race in December.

A festival of live music, food and wine will close one of Adelaide’s busiest roads for four days before the Adelaide 500 car race in December.

Adelaide City Council is undergoing community consultation on the proposal to shut Bartels Rd between East Tce and Dequetteville Tce for the new Harvest Rock Festival.

The event was first announced last year by former Liberal premier Steven Marshall as part of the Bloom festival. It will be run by the organisers of the hugely popular Splendour in the Grass and Falls live music festivals which are held annually interstate.

Elected members have been told the two-day festival on November 19 and 20 is being funded by the state government.

“Harvest Rock is a new major live music event for Adelaide,” said a staff briefing. “It will showcase the best international and South Australian artists along with the finest wine producers, chefs and produce South Australia has to offer.”

The festival will be held in Rymill Park, King Rodney Park and on Bartels Rd, which will be used for stages and as a conduit between the two parks.

It is proposed to close the road from 7pm on Thursday, November 17, until midnight on Monday, November 21. It will reopen for four days before being closed again for 11 days from November 25 until December 6 for the Adelaide 500.

The staff briefing said Harvest Rock would attract music enthusiasts and visitors from interstate and overseas, as well as local and regional visitors to the park lands”.

“Event organisers estimate Harvest Rock will attract minimum attendances of 20,000 to 25,000 patrons per day, with an ambition for 40 per cent of attendees being visitors to the state,” it said.

“The organisers are committed to prioritising the use of South Australian based suppliers, vendors, accommodation, and industry, to deliver and support Harvest Rock.”

The consultation ends on July 27.
