A fire has broken out in well-known Adelaide restaurant Paper Tiger.

The Advertiser understands the blaze erupted in one of the rooms inside the Rundle St restaurant on Wednesday night, forcing the business to close as fire investigators determine the cause.

It has not yet been confirmed when the restaurant will reopen.

The landmark site has undergone many changes over the years.

Paper Tiger, a Southeast Asian fusion eatery, opened two years ago on the former site of Jock Zonfrillo’s award-winning Orana restaurant.

Prior to that, the venue was a modern Australian restaurant, Two-Pot Screamer, which was opened by local business Penny Hospitality in December 2021.

And during its heyday in the 1990s, as the Universal Wine Bar, this dining room ruled the roost in the East End.

Soon after its opening, Paper Tiger was given a glowing review by The Advertiser’s food critic, Simon Wilkinson.

Meanwhile, another overnight fire has destroyed a building that houses two businesses at Port Elliot, causing $1 million damage overnight.

Just after midnight on Thursday, firefighting crews found the shed used as a property hire and gym business fully alight.

The building is home to Diggermate Mini Excavator Hire and the Waves of Warriors Muay Thai Training Centre
