After a three-year battle with bowel cancer, Amanda Hogg, the co-founder of Eyre Peninsula based luxury accommodation business Eyre Way has passed, aged 39.

Mrs Hogg’s husband and business co-founder, Tim Hogg, announced the news on Tuesday via social media – calling Mrs Hogg the “Queen of Eyre Way”.

Based in Port Lincoln, Mrs Hogg passed away, as per her wishes, in her family’s Adelaide based home last Thursday morning, surrounded by family.

Feeling something was wrong with her body, Mrs Hogg attended multiple check-ups with GPs, undertaking blood tests and a bowel screening – which all came back negative.

However, trusting her instinct and body, she persisted until one GP suggested a colonoscopy, which detected the cancer.

Originally a schoolteacher, Mrs Hogg left the profession after having the couple’s first child India, nine years ago.

“Amanda hasn’t been in a traditional type job since our first child was born … she just took her maternity leave and then that was it,” Mr Hogg said.

Passionate about building a business hosting people via airbnb, eco-sustainability and sharing the natural wonders of the Eyre Peninsula with others – based off the couple’s own travels – Eyre Way was born in 2022.

Diagnosed with cancer the same year, Mr Hogg explained that it was his wife who – despite undergoing treatment – was the driving force behind the venture.

“This was just Amanda’s dream … she brought the dream to reality and I just came along for the ride,” he said.

“Our ethos was to be less impactful on the environment, be off grid, and just enjoy being outdoors – as that’s what we love doing.

“Amanda designed all the accommodation, so all the interior and exterior design.

“Build wise, I do as much of that as practical.

As for working together, Mr Hogg wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It was pretty amazing to be able to work together every day, be at home, check jobs together,” he said.

Mrs Hogg is survived by her husband Tim (39) and their three children, Jybah (4), Elka (6) and India (9).
