A pedestrian has been struck by a car on the remote Stuart Hwy in SA’s north.

Emergency services were called to the serious accident at De Rose Hill, about 30km south of the NT border, on Tuesday afternoon.

Crews from SA Police, Northern Territory police, SA Ambulance and the Country Fire Service attended the scene.

Stuart Hwy is closed in both directions, which is expected to cause significant delays.

Motorist are being urged to remain at Kulgera or Marla while Major Crash Investigators fly to the scene.

Traffic restrictions were in place, with motorists urged to take care and take direction from emergency services if driving through the area.

A spokesman for SA Police said they believed the pedestrian was walking along the highway at the time of the incident, but officers had not yet determined if the driver and the pedestrian were known to each other.
