A kiss-cam is unlikely when Ed Sheeran tours Australia in 2026.

Personal reflection on his friendships with the late cricket icon Shane Warne and music promoter Michael Gudinski are however on the cards when the global superstar brings his all-new Loop Tour to the country from January to March.

“It is very difficult to go to Australia now and not remember Michael Gudinski and Shane Warne,” Sheeran told The Daily Telegraph.

“I think they are massive parts of my life and my career and … there will always be reflection.

Sheeran, 34, had a longstanding professional and personal relationship with Gudinski, the Frontier Touring boss who died in March 2021 at 68.

Warne meanwhile was a close personal friend whose death at 52 shocked the world in March 2022.

Sheeran played an emotional show at the MCG in 2023, where he paid tribute to Gudinski, his friend and mentor.

“I don’t think it will be as emotional as the MCG and I think that is why we picked Marvel Stadium (in Melbourne) because I think the MCG was such a moment, it all culminated there and it was Michael’s vision to play in the round at the MCG with a band and it is also where … it is kind of Shane’s home down there,” Sherran said.

The Australian leg will start in Perth on January 31 before heading to Sydney’s Accor Stadium on February 13 and the following night, Valentine’s Day.

The tour will also take him to Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Marvel Stadium in Melbourne and Adelaide Oval.

“When I am there, I am definitely going to see both their families and there will be some personal reflection but I think the gig is a separate thing,” he continued.

Sheeran was cautious when asked whether or not he would have a kiss-cam at his venues after the recent Coldplay concert that outed the biggest affair scandal of the year.

That moment went viral when former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, along with senior executive Kristian Cabot, were caught on the stadium’s big screen sharing an embrace, exposing an alleged workplace affair.

“No, we’ve never had a kiss-cam,” he said. “No.”

It has been two years since Sheeran last visited Australia with his Mathematics Tour.

“Ed’s new live show promises to be filled with surprises, new music, as well as his biggest hits,” a statement from promoters Frontier Touring and MG Live said.

The shows will support Sheeran’s new album, Play, which is due for release in September and has already spawned hits with Azizam, Sapphire and Old Phone.

“Play was an album that was made as a direct response to the darkest period of my life,” Sheeran has said on Instagram of the album.

“It’s a real rollercoaster of emotions … (and) encapsulates … where I am in life as a human, a partner, a father. The older I get, the more I just want to enjoy things, and savour the moments that are mad and chaotic.”

Sheeran said the songs relate to a period of darkness and doubt in his life. It was early 2022.

His wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with a tumour while pregnant with their second child. He also lost Warne and close friend, music producer Jamal Edwards.

“I felt like I didn’t want to live anymore,” he said after those tragedies. “Those thoughts were bad enough, but shame arrived as their companion. They seemed selfish, especially as a father. I feel really embarrassed about it.”

Sheeran added: “I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up, but not being able to break through for air.”

Sheeran last performed in Melbourne two years ago. He played two shows at the MCG, breaking the stadium’s concert attendance records on both nights.

Telstra Plus Member presale runs for 48 hours from Friday while Frontier Member presale runs for 24 hours on July 28.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 29
