Country Fire Service volunteers rescue two dogs from house fire near Port Augusta

Volunteer firefighters have forced entry to a burning home in regional SA under sweltering conditions to rescue a toy poodle and staffy trapped inside.

Firefighters have rescued two pet dogs from a house fire near Port Augusta.

County Fire Service, police and ambulance crews responded to the fire about 10am on Thursday, after reports of smoke coming from the roof of the Kanyaka Ave, Stirling North property.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but firefighters busted down the front door in 37C heat to save Lacey the staffy and Bella the toy poodle from the blaze.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of the home, where it was contained by firefighters, with the damage estimated at around $50,000.

The cause of the fire is being investigated but police do not consider it suspicious.
