A man stopped by police for riding a scooter without a helmet will face drug and weapon charges after a woman allegedly approached him asking to buy drugs – right in front of plain-clothed cops.

Police were conducting a patrol in Woodville Gardens just before 11am on Sunday when they saw a man riding a scooter without wearing a helmet.

Police stopped the man on Humphries Tce and as police were conducting checks, a woman allegedly approached the man and asked to buy drugs from him.

Police will allege the man denied knowledge of why the woman was asking, however she persisted and was oblivious to the police presence.

The man was searched and police say officers found drugs suspected of being GHB and cash.

A further search of the man’s home uncovered a small bottle of suspected GHB, suboxone strips and a taser.

The 43-year-old man from Angle Park was arrested and charged with traffic in a controlled drug, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of prescription drugs and money laundering.

The man was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
