Christian Brother College student Javale’s defying the odds as he continues long road to recovery
The family of a 13-year-old boy who was hit by a flying hammer, have shared a heartwarming update about his recovery.

The family of a Christian Brothers College (CBC) student who was seriously injured being hit by a flying hammer during athletics training last month, say his survival is a miracle.
Javale was hit while practising hammer throws after school at St Albans Reserve, Clearview which is home to the Enfield Harriers Athletic Club, around 5pm on Thursday, September 5th.
The 13-year-old student was on the brink of death but has continued to defy the odds while recovering in hospital after undergoing risky brain surgery.
The family told 7News his survival is “a miracle”.
The hammer throw challenges athletes to swing and launch a steel ball from a tether as far as possible, with the “hammer” generally weighing 7.2kg for men.
Javale’s school is planning a silent auction on November 1 to help raise funds towards the boy’s recovery, with “about 25 excellent prizes”.
College principal David Johnston last week also provided a promising update on Javale’s condition.
“He is defying the odds, the powers of prayer have been so wonderful,” Mr Johnston said.
“Javale is now able to sit up in bed and we will continue to pray for him.
“If we can successfully auction those gifts we will raise a considerable amount of money that will go towards a fund for Javale.
“In addition to that we will have the option of people to donate directly into a fund to support Javale.”

Emergency crews treated Javale for a serious head injury at the scene before taking him to hospital.
