Shocking videos of a little girl vaping in regional SA have surfaced, in which an adult hand appears to offer the child a vape. Watch the footage.

Shocking videos of a child vaping in regional South Australia have surfaced causing health experts to call for tougher legislation.

A little girl along with a woman believed to be a relative are seen in the video smoking a vape and blowing smoke at the camera.

In a second video a hand reaches out from behind the camera offering the same young child the vape.

The child, who still uses a dummy, again smokes from the vape blowing out the smoke.

10 News First reported the woman in the video is from Ceduna on South Australia’s west coast and is a relative of the child seen vaping.

Chris Morris, prevention and advocacy manager at Cancer Council SA, said vaping may affect brain development in children.

“There is also the risk of children becoming addicted to the nicotine in e-cigarettes,” he said, adding seizures and poisoning were other risks.

“Any vaping by young children is incredibly concerning. E-cigarettes are not toys and we urge parents to keep e-cigarettes away from children and not use them around children.

“We know there are kids right now in Adelaide who are waking up in the night to go outside for an e-cigarette,” he said.

The Australian Medical Association’s Dr Michelle Atchison warned parents to treat vapes as if they were cigarettes.

“You wouldn’t put a cigarette in a child’s mouth,” she said.

A spokeswoman for the Child Protection Department said it was assessing information provided by police, who were investigating the footage. “It is our understanding that this footage was taken some years ago,” she said.

The AMA is calling for tougher legislation to try and stop e-cigarettes from landing in the hands of children.

“We need some regulation around the importation of vaping products,” Dr Atchison said.

“We want those flavours taken out of vapes.”
