CFS called to fire at three Kangaroo Island businesses

Firefighters have battled a blaze threatening to destroy three Kangaroo Island businesses with now police investigating the cause.

Firefighters have put out a blaze on Kangaroo Island that left three business with an estimated damage bill of $500,000.

Two Kingscote cafes and a butcher were under threat with the Country Fire Service on the scene battling the Sunday night blaze.

Ten CFS trucks with around 36 local firefighters were called to Lighthouse Cafe, Northcotts Fine Foods Butcher and Cafe Scrumptious on Dauncey St after the fire ignited around 5.30pm.

The building is unsafe for firefighters to enter, according to the CFS, with crews fighting to contain fire within the roof before it could spread to the adjacent properties.

The right side of the building has been significantly impacted and the damage estimated at $500,000.

All three businesses were closed when the blaze started with no one reported to have been inside the premises.

The cause is currently unknown and fire investigators will attend the scene.

SA Police and SA Power Networks were also on scene.

It comes after fire destroyed The Shy Wren restaurant at Penneshaw in $1m blaze in June followed by the Odd Plate at the Seaview Motel in August with an estimated damage bill of $500k.
