A man is fighting for life in hospital after rolling a ute and hitting a tree at Hindmarsh Valley.

The local man, 24, was travelling on Sawpit Rd just before midnight, when a Ford ute he was driving rolled and hit a tree on Tuesday.

He was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre via helicopter and remained in a critical condition.

Sawpit Rd was closed for several hours, but had since reopened.

It comes after a man was arrested after allegedly stealing a luxury car from a Prospect home, before he crashed it and ran away from police across roofs.

Occupants in a home on Pulsford Rd woke to noises and discovered someone driving away in their black BMW.

Other items were missing in their home including phones, a computer and a camera.

Police were alerted to the theft and discovered the stolen car on Prospect Rd, which was tracked by the police helicopter through Blair Athol and Enfield.

The BMW continued through Hectorville before it crashed into a fence at the corner of Montacute and Moorlands Rds.

The driver fled the car on foot and started jumping fences and running onto roofs as patrols set up cordons in the area.

The driver was eventually found in the yard of a home in Binnswood St and the property stolen during the earlier break-in was found in the suspect’s vehicle.

The Croydon Park man, 28, was arrested and is expected to be charged with a string of theft-related offences.

It follows an overnight incident where a car crashed through the front window of a home at Elizabeth South.

The Ford Laser lost control and crashed through a fence and window of a Tregenza Ave home about 7.30pm Tuesday.

The occupants of the home were not injured in the crash.

The driver, a Salisbury East man, 30, also escaped unharmed and has not been charged.

Police are investigating if another car was involved in an initial crash on Tregenza Ave and left the scene without stopping.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
