An arrest warrant has been issued for a NSW man who allegedly caused thousands of dollars in damage to a popular Adelaide hotel and assaulted its staff after he failed to front court on Tuesday.

Samuel William Ajal, 34, was due to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday but did not appear.

In response to his absence, Magistrate Justin Wickens ordered an arrest warrant and cancelled Mr Ajal’s home detention bail.

Mr Ajal, who is originally from Guildford in NSW, was earlier released on home detention bail to live with his partner in Fullarton.

Mr Ajal last year allegedly smashed up three pokie gaming machines at the Arkaba Hotel on Glen Osmond Rd in Fullarton.

Hotel staff intervened and were allegedly assaulted during the incident.

They were ultimately able to restrain Mr Ajal until police got to the scene.

The 34-year-old was charged with two counts of assault and two counts of property damage as a result.

On Tuesday, prosecution withdrew one count of property damage.

The damages were initially estimated at more than $80,000 but that figure has now been reduced to less than $6000.

The prosecutor told the court “the major indictable will then go to a minor indictable because the damage is confirmed to be under $30,000”.

Mr Ajal has also been barred from the hotel.
