Police went to a house in Elinor Terrace after receiving information that a suspect in a recent break-in at Upper Sturt was at the property. The suspect refused to surrender.

The drama unfolded after a separate break-in at an unidentified property, which police did not release information about.

Amid fears the man, whose details police did not release, had weapons, heavily armed STAR-Group officers were called-in to help end the siege.

Police vans and detectives are set up on Bagot St with negotiators trying to peacefully end the stand-off.

One resident of a street where police set up cordons, was worried by the situation.

“It’s not good,” he said.

“But it’s normal these days, not for here but it does happen.”

Another resident of a nearby street, Li Sun, 53, said he became concerned when he saw police cars.

“I didn’t know what was happening, Mr Sun said.

“If they’ve got weapons it’s not safe for us.”

One homeowner said the situation was “scary in a (otherwise) quiet neighbourhood”.

It is understood there are no hostages.
