A teenager will face court after an armed robbery in Port Lincoln on Tuesday morning.
Police were called to a service station on King St at 12.30am after reports a suspect had entered the store and threatened staff with a knife and demanded cash.
The suspect stole a small amount of cash and confectionery and fled the scene, police say.
Police searched the area and allegedly found the teenager hiding on London St and the knife was found under a nearby truck.
The 14-year-old boy from Port Lincoln has been charged with robbery and has been refused police bail.
He will appear via video link in the Adelaide Youth Court on Tuesday.
Luckily, the staff member was not injured.
It comes after SA’s knife laws are set to become the “toughest” in the country under new reforms that give police new powers and severely limit who can buy and carry knives.
Carrying or using knives at TAFEs and unis would be banned, and their sale to minors outlawed under new reforms.
Police officers would also be given more powers to conduct metal detector searches at shopping centres, at bus and train stations and on public transport, at pubs and clubs and in larger mass gatherings – such as at the beach on a hot day.
