‘Hot and windy weather’: Sky News meteorologists predict near-average spring fire threat

The unpredictable nature of spring will present South Australia with some summer-like days this week before cooling off again.

The Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Simon Timcke said it was normal to see changing weather conditions at this time of year.

“The spring is pretty changeable time of year, we can get some pretty warm days but also some pretty cool days too,” Mr Timcke said. “This spring so far has been pretty dry but we are seeing a change moving across soon.

“We’re under the influence of a high pressure system today and most of tomorrow, so we’re going to have some pretty stable weather winds will turn around northerly bringing in some warmer weather for Wednesday.

“Then on Thursday, there’ll be another change and it’ll be a little bit cooler. It’ll still be mostly dry except a possible, very isolated shower and thunderstorm in the lower south east and the far south west of the state.”

In Adelaide’s metropolitan area, Tuesday will be mostly sunny with temperatures climbing to a top of 20C, with winds tending easterly and south-easterly at speeds between 15 to 25km/h.

On Wednesday, it is forecast to be a clear and warm day reaching 26C.

Then on Thursday, temperatures will drop to 20C but it is expected to stay mostly sunny with clear sky throughout the entire day. But then it heats up again with 21C forecast for Friday, 24C for Saturday and 27C for both Sunday and Monday.

Meanwhile, the temperature in Murray Bridge on Tuesday is set to be 21C before jumping to a hot 27C on Wednesday. From there, temperatures will drop on Thursday to 20C before starting to climb back up again.

It is expected Murray Bridge will be 21C on Friday, then rise to 26C on Saturday before becoming a scorching 30C on Sunday.

In Two Wells, temperatures will reach a top of 20C on Tuesday before jumping to 28C on Wednesday. Temperatures will remain between 20C and 25C throughout the later half of the week before rising to 28C on Sunday.

And in Port Augusta the temperatures will be on the higher end of the spectrum. On Tuesday, it should be 27C and by Wednesday it’ll heat up to 32C. Then – like in other places – the temperature should drop to 23C on Thursday before gradually climbing back up to 32C on Sunday.
