The owners of a popular Adelaide restaurant have warned customers of a new scam falsely requesting diners pay a $150 deposit to confirm their reservation.

The team at Thai eatery Golden Boy, on North Terrace, sent out an email on Tuesday alerting prospective guests of the fraudulent scheme, saying they are “actively investigating the situation”.

“This email is a scam and was not sent by us. We do not request deposits via email, and any communication from our team will always come from our official email addresses,” the email said.

“We are taking this matter very seriously and are actively investigating the situation, including how this has occurred and how we can prevent it from happening again.

“We deeply regret any confusion or concern this may have caused. Your trust means everything to us, and we want to reassure you that we are doing everything possible to protect your information and ensure your experience with Golden Boy is safe and enjoyable.”

The team at the beloved East End venue said they have reported the scam to the “relevant authorities”, and encouraged guests to contact the restaurant if they have any concerns, or the Nation Anti-Scam Centre if they have already responded to the fraudulent email.

“Thank you for your understanding and for being a part of the Golden Boy community. We’re grateful for your support,” the Thai eatery said in their email.

The Advertiser has contacted Golden Boy for comment.
