Adelaide Airport arrest: Bail granted for alleged Rebels bikies charged with criminal association

A group of alleged Rebels have faced court after they were arrested at Adelaide Airport and charged with breached SA’s strict anti-bikies law.

Three alleged Rebels bikies will be allowed to return to their home state of Western Australia after they were arrested at Adelaide Airport under the state’s strict criminal association laws.

On Thursday, Jye Raymond Veale, 27, Michael John Robertson, 43, and Hayden Peter-John Vermeer, 34, all from Western Australia, fronted the Adelaide Magistrates Court where Magistrate Natalie Browne granted the three men bail.

In applying for bail, counsel for three men said “the standard condition of to remain within the state of South Australia will obviously have to not be included” .

The trio were arrested at the airport about 11.30am on Wednesday and then charged with being present with two or more criminal organisation participants.

Police allege the men are all members of the Rebels, which is a declared criminal organisation in SA.

In SA, it is an offence for participants of a declared criminal organisation to be in a public place with two or more other persons who are also participants in a declared criminal organisation.

SA Police say the Crime Gangs Task Force will continue to investigate reports of outlaw motorcycle gang members gathering in public places in contravention of this law to ensure the safety of the public.

The matter will return to court in September.
