A teenager has been arrested and police are continuing to hunt for another suspect following an alleged brutal assault in Rundle Mall last month.
CCTV images, released by police last month, showed what police allege was two men assaulting a duo in Rundle Mall as a young couple was attacked while holding hands.
The couple, aged in their 20s, said they were walking on November 10, when they were approached by two males, with one pulling a balaclava over his face before the alleged attack.
One of the suspects allegedly punched and kicked the victims.
A second suspect then ran up and allegedly punched one of the victims, a 28-year-old man, breaking his jaw.
A member of the public came to the couple’s aid and the suspects ran off.
Following investigations, a 17-year-old boy from Seaton was arrested on Sunday, December 1 and charged with two counts of assault.
He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on January 17.
Investigations are continuing and police have some promising leads in relation to the outstanding suspect.
Prior to the arrest, the victims spoke to 7News Adelaide anonymously last month alleging that the men set upon them because they were homosexual.
“This is horrible and the pain is 10/10 … I’m afraid to go down the street because someone will hit me again,” the victim told 7News Adelaide.
“At first they started yelling out homosexual harassment.
According to one of the victims, the “traumatising” attack was thwarted by a local shop owner who ran to their aid, however, they said onlookers watched the incident and did not intervene.
“It’s been traumatising for both of us,” they said.
