Sneak peek: Here’s what to expect from special art exhibition

An upcoming event will celebrate some of the region’s favourite artists and how their work has evolved over the past decade.

Toowoomba art lovers are set to take a stroll down memory lane as part of a collaborative project that celebrates some of the region’s talent in the creative industries.

It’s been almost 10 years since the Made Creative Space closed its studio doors but it’s set to reopen next month for one night only to host the Made. Reunion Show.

Co-director Alex Stalling said the special event would commemorate artists that exhibited projects from 2011 to 2013.

“We were one of the first studios in the area to do public collaborations,” Ms Stalling said.

“Over the years we partnered with other organisations like Toowoomba Regional Council, The University of Southern Queensland, Grand Central Shopping Centre and the Carnival of Flowers among others.”

Ms Stalling said while decision to close the studio was difficult, it meant it had served its purpose in closing the gap in regional art by creating a space to embrace and recognise the region’s talent.

“Toowoomba has such a rich history of producing artists and anyone working in the creative industries,” Ms Stalling said.

“This show is about looking back over the last 10 years at the artists who exhibited work in the gallery and following their journeys, seeing how pivotal this space was for artists and looking at how their work has evolved over the years too.”

Transforming her current business Tinker into an exhibition space for the night Ms Stalling will be hosting the event at 76 Russell St, Toowoomba.

Joeli Eastell, Evan Hollis, Sue McMaster, Cara-Ann Simpson, Daniel Qualischefski and Elysha Rei are just some of the artists showcasing their latest works at the Made. Reunion Show.

Artists Stephen Spurrier and David Usher will officially open the reunion show on Saturday, July 3 at 11am.

The exhibition will remain open on Tuesday, July 6 from 10am to 2pm and Friday, July 9 from 3pm to 5pm.

Entry is free but bookings are essential.
