Sydney’s social set has reacted with surprise and immense sadness at the news of actor and former prime minister’s son Julian McMahon
Socialite Skye Leckie, who was best friends with McMahon’s late philanthropist mother – and former Australian prime minister’s wife — Lady Sonia, broke down in tears when she heard the news on Saturday morning.

Leckie said even she had been unaware of Julian’s cancer diagnosis.

“The news of Julian McMahon’s passing is heartbreaking,” she said.

“His mother, Lady Sonia McMahon, was one of my greatest friends in life and Julian carried her grace, charm and strength in everything he did too.

“He was magnetic, warm and deeply kind. His loss will be felt far and wide.”

Sydney hairdresser to the stars George Giavis also paid tribute to McMahon saying: “I am saddened this morning to hear of the passing of Julian.

“He was charm personified, with incredible charisma, an undeniable ‘it factor’ and a rare kindness that you don’t find in many people, let alone famous ones.

“My thoughts are with his wife, family and friends today.”
US actor Rose McGown, who worked with him on Charmed, said: “Oh Julian you force of brilliance, wild talent and humour. For you, your family and loving fans all over the world, I pray comfort.”
