Dogs have no place in shopping trolleys.
That’s the view of most couriermail.com.au readers, with an overwhelming majority voting against allowing the practice in supermarkets.
About 79 per cent of the 2000 readers voted to ban allowing dogs in trolleys, with 9 per cent voting for it to continue, and 12 per cent saying “only in non-food shops”.
The debate was ignited by a Coles customer who vented on social media after he witnessed a pet dog being pushed around in a shopping trolley at the New Farm supermarket.
“Don’t know of any food safety standard that would deem this acceptable,” the concerned customer wrote.
The report sparked strong debate on Facebook – here is what you said.
THOSE AGAINST DOGS IN TROLLEYS
Michael Bush: I love dogs but I don’t think they should be taken to the shops
Chris Ford: I’m a dog owner and don’t believe dogs should be in shops. Having lived on a farm, and then owned horses for many years, I believe there are certain places for animals, certain places for humans. Have no problem with Bunnings.
Tara Suzanne Forrest: people with dog allergies shouldn’t have to roll with that …. when they want to go & buy some groceries
Denise McLachlan: Yeah. Great idea until a dog bites a customer who then sues the owner and the business.
Barbara Rudd: Well it really is not the done thing, they should be at home, not very hygienic I would have thought, perhaps the manager should decide what has to be done about it.
Colin Singh: No fning way I’m a dog owner. Food is what should be in trolley
Lyn Cochrane: People who take their dogs to shops restaurants and markets have NO respect for anyone else but themselves. Dogs are not people! Take your dog for a walk or to a dog friendly park but please stop taking them to shops etc.

Karren O’Dea: I love taking my fur kid to bunnings. he makes people smile.
And often starts a conversation.
Fabiana Bernardi: A lot of places are becoming dog friendly, like pubs, Cafe, airplanes, hotels so I don’t see the problem. Love dogs
Vin Govindan: If a dog is toilet trained and well behaved, then it’s not a problem. Humans can be much more unhygienic than dogs.
