QLD’S SHOCKING FLU DEATH TOLL
QUEENSLAND’S flu death toll has risen to at least 51 as an immunisation expert issued a plea to parents to get young children vaccinated against the virus.
The number of deaths so far this year is already eight more than for the whole of 2018, with the peak of the flu season expected in August-September.
Although the state’s youngest influenza victim this year was in their early 20s, Queensland Health immunisation program medical director Jonathan Malo said children under five were at a high risk of flu complications.
He said 169 children under five had been admitted to public hospitals with flu.
A VERY BIG DEAL
BLOCKBUSTING forward Tevita Pangai Jr will pledge his future to Brisbane as part of a $4 million retention coup that includes teammate Matt Lodge signing an upgraded deal with the Broncos.
The Courier-Mail can reveal the Broncos will announce the signature of Pangai Jr in a huge boost for Brisbane ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Warriors.
Brisbane staved off a massive $1 million-a-season bid from the Warriors to retain Lodge, who has signed a three-year deal worth around $700,000 a year.
