Severe thunderstorms to hit Toowoomba as bureau issues stormy outlook
Severe thunderstorms threaten Toowoomba and Southern Queensland this weekend as the Bureau of Meteorology warns Sunday will bring the harshest conditions.
Gloomy and stormy are what Toowoomba and the surrounding regions are set to head into the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology have forecasted cloudy weather for Thursday, rain to persist from Friday to Saturday and then an escalation on Sunday.
Bureau of Meteorology Forecaster Jonathon How said Toowoomba and the surrounding Southern Queensland would see harsher weather happen towards the end of the weekend.
“Over the weekend, particularly Sunday, we could see some severe thunderstorms developing,” Mr Hows said.
Mr How said the weather looked to be unsettled and warm, but then by early next week temperatures would cool down a touch.
“At this stage, it’s forecast to be 23 next Tuesday, definitely cooling down from the high 20s, low 30s,” he said.
“There’s quite a stormy outlook even coming into sort of the middle to later part of next week.”
The BOM forecast shows nonstop storms from midday Monday through to 10pm Tuesday.
Although Mr How said it’s early to properly forecast the weather for the Christmas period, the long range forecast looked to be a very classic December pattern.
