A 39-year-old woman died in a single vehicle rollover on the Victoria Highway 5km east of Bulla about 8.30am on Sunday morning.
NT Police say it appears the woman was thrown from the vehicle, while the other occupant, a 19-year-old woman, was extracted from the vehicle by emergency services.
An off-duty nurse arrived on the scene not long after the crash and the 39-year-old female was declared deceased.
Once emergency services arrived from Timber Creek they extracted the other occupant and transported her to Royal Darwin Hospital by CareFlight in a “critical condition”.
This is the 21st life lost on Territory roads this year, compared to 30 in last year’s devastating road toll.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit has been deployed and a crime scene was established.
Investigations remain ongoing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
A police spokesman said they were still trying to identify who was driving the vehicle at the time.
“The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation and at this stage police are still confirming the position of the individuals in the car pre-crash, and the exact cause of the crash,” he said.
Victoria Highway remains impacted on both lanes and traffic diversions are in place.
Police ask anyone with information, particularly those with dash cam footage of the incident, to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference number P25174133.
