Scott Morrison finally moves out of Kirribilli House, two weeks after devastating election loss

Two weeks after a crushing election day, Scott Morrison is gearing up for eviction day, with removalists finally seen moving his things from the Prime Minister’s residence.

‘I hope he’s enjoying the views’: Scott Morrison has ‘overstayed his welcome’ at Kirribilli

He’s been unkindly dubbed Squat Morrison for taking nearly a fortnight to move out of the harbourside mansion in Kirribilli, but D- day has finally arrived for the former Prime Minister.

Removalist trucks were seen arriving on Friday to cart away the possessions of Mr Morrison, his wife Jenny and their two daughters.

The family’s Port Hacking home in the Shire has been undergoing a quick paint and a spruce up to allow the family to return home.

The suburban residence, which features polished floors and a pool, was purchased in July 2009 for $920,000 but is now estimated to be worth $3 million.

It’s been largely empty and untenanted for the last four years, but more recently was generously offered to the couple’s pool cleaner as a safe haven after she lost her home in the floods.

Around lunchtime, removalist trucks descended on Kirribilli to clear out the former Prime Minister’s gear but curiously their intended destination for part of the haul was a storage unit.

Mr Morrison, who is now a backbencher, was spotted this afternoon at the family home relaxing on a deck chair out the front, with a removalist van parked in the driveway beside him.

According to friends he’s intending to take a period of leave and spending time with his wife and daughters during the school holiday.

Since the ill-fated family holiday to Hawaii nearly three years ago, the Morrisons have not travelled overseas for recreation.

But perhaps now Fiji or another sunny location could beckon without the threat of a public backlash.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is understood to have told the family there’s no rush to vacate Kirribilli as he continues living in his $2.5 million home.

“I think it’s gracious of the new PM to extend him the opportunity to stay there,” Lobbyist David Gazard, a close friend of the former PM told on Sky News on Wednesday.

“There’s no real secret to it he’s just getting his house in the Shire repainted, the poor guy hasn’t really had a day off for the past three years so he’s doing some much-needed renovation on the interior of the house so he can move in.”

The Lodge was cleared out last Thursday after a large orange truck pulled up at the gates, but Mr Morrison only lived in Canberra when parliament was sitting.

The dumped PM was photographed earlier this week hauling filing cabinets up the steps of his family home in preparation to move home.

“(He’s) in the process of moving out,” his spokesman said this week.

“There’s two weeks you have to move out.

“That’s protocol. So there’s no delay.”

But Mr Morrison’s two-week sojourn at the taxpayer-funded mansion with harbour views is substantially longer than any previous prime minister and is second only to former Prime Minister John Howard who stayed for 16 days after he lost the 2007 election.

Prime Minister John Howard who stayed for 16 days after he lost the 2007 election.

By contrast, the former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd bolted out of the Lodge within five days in 2010 after he was replaced by Julia Gillard.

When she lost the 2013 election she was packed up and out within six days.

The speediest departure was Tony Abbott in 2015 who packed up his surfboard and was out within just 72 hours after he was dumped.

Malcolm Turnbull never even moved in, preferring to stay at his palatial family home in Point Piper.

Two years ago, an activist who threatened to “sh*t in the pool” at Scott Morrison’s personal address was handed a prison sentence – that was later overturned after he invited people to hang out at the house.

Dean Fletcher, 33, was sentenced to four months behind bars for organising the event at the Prime Minister’s home in Sydney’s south.

It was inspired by Mr Morrison’s decision to take a controversial holiday to Hawaii.

The jail term was overturned when Judge Michael King quashed it and imposed a conviction without further punishment.

He fined Mr Fletcher $400 for trespassing, a charge stemming from when he walked across the back lawn to place a can of Little Fat Lamb in the recycling bin.
