Mining expo gets under way

A CUTTING-EDGE demolition robot is one of the thousands of pieces of equipment on show at the 2015 Surat Basin Energy and Mining Expo.

The expo, open today and tomorrow at the Toowoomba Showgrounds, will be the home to more than 200 exhibitors and several thousand delegates from around Australia and overseas.

Brokk Australia general manager Will Visser said the company, at the Toowoomba expo for the first time, would showcase the company's range of equipment to the region's coal miners.

This included the $150,000 Brokk100, imported from Sweden by Adelaide-based company Brokk Australia.

Australian Events director (corporate development) Greg Johnson said this year's expo featured more quality exhibits and highlights than its predecessors.

"For me, the principal highlight is having Queensland's GasFields Commission on board with a major exhibition for the sole purpose of talking to delegates about supply chain opportunities in the Surat Basin.

"Not only will senior officers from the commission be on hand but also senior procurement officers from gas companies plus their major contractors."

Today, delegates will be able to talk to experts from the Santos GLNG project and Australia Pacific LNG/Origin project as well as contractors Spotless Services and the Morris Corporation.

Online registration has now closed however. Business managers and staff can still register at the gate for a nominal fee.
