Roads closed, traffic diverted after man goes on stabbing rampage
Several main roads in Sydney’s CBD were closed and buses diverted after a man went on a stabbing rampage in the heart of the city this afternoon.

Sydneysiders are enduring a lengthy commute home after a knife rampage in the CBD brought traffic to a standstill and forced the lockdown of several busy streets.
Police shut down Carrington, King and Wynyard Streets this afternoon as alleged attacker Mert Ney was brought down by members of the public.

King St was closed between Clarence and York Streets until just after 5pm when all lanes were reopened while two of four northbound lanes on Clarence St remained closed at 6pm.
Buses were diverted from the area due to the ongoing police operation.
The Clarence St entrance of Wynyard Station was also closed to the public until 5.20pm
Motorists and buses were diverted away from King St while Clarence St was closed northbound between Market and King.
In the Sydney CBD, route 613 614 615 & 616 buses are picking up passengers from Stand Q on Clarence Street at Jamison Street due to a police operation

Drivers are still encouraged to avoid the Sydney CBD, and those already in the city heading eastbound should use Bathurst St instead of King St.
