Warwick Caltex on Albion St offering fuel 40 cents cheaper than metro average with motorists queuing to fill up

Motorists seeking a reprieve at the petrol pump should look now further than one regional Queensland town that has fuel 40 cents cheaper than the metro average. However, not all residents in the region are happy.

Motorists looking to beat the bowser should stop by the Southern Downs, with one town in the region home of the cheapest fuel in the state.

Warwick’s new Caltex on Albion St has drivers around the region flabbergasted, with 40 cents cheaper than the metro average.

As of Wednesday, E10 is a staggering $144.1/L, Unleaded 91 at $144.3/L and diesel is $159 .2/L.

Compared to the Brisbane metro average from FuelPrice Australia of $1.81, and motorists have reason to cheer. The closest second according to Fuel Maps is Liberty at Beaudesert, 158.9/l for unleaded 91.

An attendant at Caltex Warwick said the move was to celebrate the opening of the store, which joined the line of servos on Albion St last week.

“We will still be trying hard to keep fuel low going forward,” the attendant said.

Throughout Wednesday, other service stations throughout the Rose City have been trying to keep up with the cheap prices and attract drivers away from the packed Caltex.

Notably, by lunch time, Metco on Albion St dropped its Unleaded 91 price to 158.5, and Mobil on Wood St to 145.1.

However, not all residents in the region are happy, with Stanthorpe residents feeling ripped off.

The disparity between fuel prices between the north and south of the Southern Downs has been in the crosshairs.

“Stanthorpe fuel prices are criminal! 40c difference between here and Warwick is a complete rip off and it takes away from the town as people are travelling to Warwick to do shopping to make there fuel bill smaller!” resident David Barron said on Facebook.

“Me filling up in Warwick saves me $24 every tank,” he wrote.

Tracey Sternsdorf asked “how do the fuel stations in Stanthorpe justify a difference of 40 cents? Has the fuel in Stanthorpe got gold flakes in it or something?”

“Bloody joke really,” another said.
