A Toowoomba man who threatened to kill a mechanic for holding his car until a hefty invoice was paid, has fronted court for the concerning blow-up.

A civil tradesman who threatened to kill his mechanic and burn down his Toowoomba workshop has pleaded guilty to making the concerning threats.

A court heard the 22-year-old man, Nicholas Gaven Carr, threatened staff at Diesel Care Toowoomba because they wouldn’t return his Navara until he paid an invoice in excess of $11,000.

Carr fronted Toowoomba District Court on Wednesday, September 5, and pleaded guilty to one charge of threatening violence.

The court heard at the time of the incident in November 2023, the new father wasn’t coping well with his mental health and was struggling with his family obligations with no vehicle.

Over a period of three weeks, the tradesman made multiple calls and threats to the mechanics, the first of which was a threat to drag the mechanic from the shop and “kick the sh-t” out of him.

On other occasions, he threatened to burn down the business and told the mechanic he would put him in a body bag, a coffin, and told the man to watch his back.

He also told the man to call his family and say goodbye because he was going to kill him.

The court heard Carr had one entry on his criminal history which related to a domestic violence offence in 2021 where he received a fine and had no conviction recorded.

Since the incident, the court heard Carr was continuing to seek support for his mental health and was furthering his career as a leading hand in the civil works sector.

The court heard Carr never paid the invoice, and after declaring bankruptcy, the car was repossessed by his finance company.

Carr was fined $1000 and no conviction was recorded.
