UPDATE 2pm:

EXPERTS will work on determining the cause of a massive road collapse and how long it will take to fix in the coming week, a Noosa Council spokesman said.

Spokesman Ken Furdek confirmed council was notified after a deluge of rain last night and geo-technicians would work to stabalise the road tomorrow.

"Council expects to have a specialist contractor on site by Tuesday to start stabilisation work of the land adjacent to the nearby unit block," he said.

"Some preliminary access work will be carried out tomorrow.

"Once the land is stabilised, a full repair of the road will get underway. Given the extensive damage, repairs could take sometime."

Mr Furdek said said council was liaising with Unitywater and Energex to determine the cause of the damage.

A spokeswoman from QPS said a pipe was left exposed, possibly damaged and a unit block's water supply was cut off.

Photos from the street show about 10m of concrete pathway and bitumen had collapsed.

Hazard fence and guard rails was also set up around the hole.

A spokesman from Noosa Council said geo-technicians were on site inspecting the damage.

He said the road will remain closed and encouraged people to avoid the area.
