Two men on trial for allegedly “taking turns” raping a Toowoomba woman in their sharehouse have pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Two young men on trial before the Toowoomba District Court have each pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape relating to the same alleged incident.

The jury trial began on Monday, December 2, and will conclude later this week.

The jury heard the alleged incident occurred at Toowoomba in 2022, after the alleged victim and her friend went back to the co-accused’s share house in the early hours of the morning.

However, the complaint’s friend left soon after, telling the court the young woman was in a room with one of the accused men when she left the house to catch an Uber.

The alleged victim’s mother told the court on Tuesday, December 3, that she tried calling her daughter the day of the incident about midday but she did not answer her phone.

The Darling Downs woman told the court when her daughter called her back about six minutes later she was extremely upset, crying, and hard to understand.

“At first I couldn’t get anything out of her,” she said.

“She was distraught.”

About 20 minutes into the phone call she told the court her daughter said “those four words,” “Mum I’ve been raped”.

She said her daughter didn’t get a chance to say much after because she “reacted straight away,” telling her not to shower and to call the police.

The girl’s roommate told the court after she was asked to call an ambulance, the young woman told her she had been raped earlier that morning by two men who were “taking turns”.

The roommate travelled with the woman to the hospital where she then stayed with her.
