A TEENAGE girl critically injured when she was thrown from a ute which crashed last night has died in hospital.
The 19-year-old girl, who was a passenger in a ute which crashed along the Gregory Highway about 11pm yesterday, about 22km north of Emerald, was initially airlifted to Brisbane.
Police tonight confirmed the woman had died in hospital.
She had suffered critical injuries and underwent treatment at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
A 28-year-old man died at the scene of the crash after he was also ejected from the ute.
Officer in Charge of Emerald Police Station, Senior Sergeant Peter McFarlane said the Forensic Crash Unit was assisting with the investigation.
"While it may be some time before we establish the cause of this crash, it is a timely reminder that we all should take steps to be safe on our roads," he said.
"If we keep the fatal five in mind every time we drive, it will dramatically reduce the chances of being involved in a serious traffic crash.
"Wear our seat belts, obey the speed limit, don't drink or drug drive, avoid driving whilst fatigued and don't be distracted by mobile phones. This will assist greatly in getting to your destination safely."
The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate.
