The combination of alcohol and a lead foot has landed a Western Downs man in trouble with the law after he was caught doing more than double the speed limit in a residential area.
Officers from the Dalby Highway Patrol Unit intercepted a Subaru WRX after it was observed to be travelling at 131km/h in a 50km/h zone in Myall St, Jandowae, around 4.30pm on November 21.
The driver, a 47-year-old man, was given a roadside breath test which police allege returned a reading of 0.158, more than three times the legal alcohol limit.
Police immediately suspended the man’s driver's licence and he was charged with one count of high range drink driving and high range speeding.
He is set to face Dalby Magistrates Court on December 16.
Western Downs Patrol Inspector Deb Harris-Taaffe said there was no excuse for drink driving or speeding.
“Drink driving and speeding are two of the key contributors to serious and fatal traffic crashes in Queensland,” Inspector Harris-Taaffe said.
“We will continue to target poor driver behaviour to keep our community safe.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. We want motorists to remember that every decision on the road matters and every life lost is one too many.”
As of November 25, 282 people have lost their lives on Queensland roads in 2025.
