FORMER three-time Olympic swimming star Lisa Curry has lodged plans for a wedding venue and health retreat for the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Adapt Planning, on behalf of Ms Curry and husband Mark Tabone, put a development application into Sunshine Coast Council last week.

The application was put in as a function facility, short-term accommodation and nature-based tourism, sprawled across a 25ha site in Crohamhurst.

Property website CoreLogic indicates the couple purchased the site which contained a four-bedroom house in 2017, for $1.1 million.

Ms Curry and Mr Tabone, an Elvis impersonator, were married at the same site in May last year.

The application is lodged as a function facility, short-term accommodation and nature-based tourism, sprawled across a 25ha site at 96 Crohamhurst Rd, Crohamhurst.

The plan says the development - lodged as the Mali Retreat - would enhance the Sunshine Coast's growing reputation as a boutique wedding, health and wellbeing destination.

"Lisa Curry, has an excellent health and wellbeing tourism influence on the Sunshine Coast, following her extensive competitive swimming career, she has become a highly respected motivational speaker and advocate for health and wellbeing," the plan reads.

"It is from this passion to both physical health and mental wellbeing that the retreat aspect of this proposal evolved.

"The wedding venue and health retreat aspects of this application are complementary with each other."

Scheduling would ensure only one of the activities occurs at one time, typically weddings are more likely to occur on a weekend, with health functions and retreats during the week.

The plans also include short-term stay accommodation in the form of 10 glamping sites for tourists or travellers for less than three months.

"The use may include a manager's residence and office and the provision of recreation facilities for the exclusive use of visitors," it reads.

The application shows a masterplan has been prepared that demonstrates the overall site layout and the connections between the site's natural attributes, current buildings and the proposed uses.

"The existing structures on the property will be repurposed, with only minor and temporary building works required," it reads.

"The site's natural attributes, vistas, running creeks and extensively treed gullies are a key element to attracting wedding parties to the venue.

"There is no required clearing of existing vegetation or a need to undertake earthworks. The site is ready for the intended land uses."

Since retiring from competitive sport, Ms Curry managed two online health and nutrition businesses, Kiss and Happy Hormones, and travels the country as a motivational speaker.
