Ipswich junior rugby league’s best and fairest players revealed across four competitions

Who were the best and fairest players from four Ipswich junior rugby league competitions played over the weekend? Revealed here.

The Queensland Times has compiled a list of the Best and Fairest players from Friday night’s footy action.

Here we include the Ipswich Rugby League under 17 division 1, under 17 development, under 15, and even under 14 competitions.

So, before junior rugby league in Ipswich has a month off, let’s see the boys who had a great performance in round 9:

Karalee and Redbank U17 development:

Redbank tried to dominate up the middle with their big forwards, however the smaller Karalee side showed massive resistance.

Karalee were able to hold onto the ball and keep possession to attack Redbank’s line for three complete sets early. They crossed first to lead 24-4 at half, having a 17/20 completion rate compared to Redbank’s 7/15.

The second half saw Karalee persist with three players injured. Through holding the ball, completing sets and putting up high-bombs to score off, Karalee ran away 46-8 victors.

The Karalee boys who lifted the whole game were props Connor O’Hagan and Austin Mann, Nick McDonald, hooker Nick McKay, interchange Isaac Skinner and second rower Liam George.

Redbank hooker Trystan Tiley was an absolute machine. He was the heart of the team. From dummy-half to the back row, his defensive efforts throughout the whole game were phenomenal.

He always turned up and kept going strong all night in what was a brilliant performance.

No.16 Zakery Srpak (Norths U15 development)

Srpak had a really good game against Redbank and was a real stand out in the second-half with his gutsy tackling consistently putting the opposition on their backs.

Meanwhile, his runs laid the platform to get his teammates on the front foot.

No.17 Konrad Castro (Norths U15 development)

Castro has started to show his love for the game.

Although he isn’t the biggest kid, he played in the front row and chopped the opposition down in the first half before shifting to the centres in the second half.

Prop: Bryce Dawson (Norths division 1)

Dawson was enormous against Brothers, playing a full game in the front row. His charges into the Brothers defensive line were just as strong in the last minute of the game as they were in the first minute.

This combined with his crushing defence made his effort even more noteworthy.

Hooker: Jack Chandler (Norths division 1)

Jack’s calm head, work rate in defence and sniping runs out of dummy-half are a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Tigers hooker.

His explosive runs from dummy-half were the momentum turner for North’s on Friday night, setting up an excellent last 15 minutes for the Tigers.

Lock: Julian Clist (Redbank development)

Clist played his first game starting at lock and he played very well defensively, organising the line.

He moved to hooker in the second half, showing his versatility,

Fassifern U17 development:

Fassifern were outclassed by a slick Swift’s outfit. Some brutal defence at times by Rhys Stephen and Ben Casey was not enough to stop the flow of points.

Kye Hammond along with Blayde Blanch tried hard all game but ultimately the Swift’s were far too good on the night.

Lowood U17 development:

The Stags had a great team performance to triumph 34-4 over the Bulldogs on Friday night.

All the boys worked hard for each other with Dylan Marshke leading the way with big runs.

Isaac Aquili’s darting runs from halfback tested West End’s defence, while Riley Maslen’s dummy-half scoots and ball control steered his team home.

Second row: Lyric Ruska ( Norths U15 development)

Ruska was the Player of the Match in Friday’s game against Redbank.

The hard-running second rower got through a mountain of work, and his strong runs and huge efforts on defence kept the opposition in check and lifted the team.

Isaiah Pene (Springfield U15):

Panthers co-captain Isaiah Pene had an awesome game in attack and defence on Friday night and was rewarded for his efforts with a meat pie.

Flynn Baker (Springfield U15):

In what was his first game in the halves, Baker did not look out of place.

His control in attack was great and he was defensively solid all game.

Prop: Connor McCall (Springfield U15)

In McCall’s first season of playing rugby league, the young man continues to grow every week.

He had an outstanding game leading from the front on Friday night to give his team a 40-6 victory over Fassifern.

Goodna U17 division 1:

The Eagles best in their 14-8 victory over Redbank on Friday were Eneliko Fomai playing in the second row, Oliva Smith playing centre and Jeriah Vagana playing five-eighth.

These three boys had very strong carries into contact and great defence against a very big Redbank forward pack, steering their side to a great win.

West End Bulldogs U14 division 1:

The Bulldogs took on Brothers in a game shaping up to be a fantastic clash. It did not disappoint.

Both teams went try-for-try until six minutes to go when West End crossed under the posts to take a 22-16 lead.

Liam Christensen came back from a major shoulder injury but it did not show during the game.

He tackled as if he was a man possessed, and it was a great spectacle of footy from Liam in his first game back.

Lock Tyreek Hamilton held the team on his shoulders and carried the load the whole game with his proficient line running and ball skills. He was the difference that saw the Bulldogs come away with the two points.

It was a master class from Hamilton, with his experience on the field showing signs similar to that of elite NRL players.

Fullback Ryan Shepherd was the Man of the Match in his team’s 30-0 win over Goodna on Friday.

Shepherd stood up with key players out, and even ended up in the halves. He was the standout.
