A Toowoomba man has been released back into the community on his 26th Birthday after pleading guilty to 24 domestic violence charges relating to two former partners.

After spending more than seven months in custody, on Monday, December 9, Ricky Cole pleaded guilty to the charges, which included two assault occasioning bodily harm charges and two common assault charges.

The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard in the past Cole served time for domestic violence offences and at the time of some of the offending he was subject to a parole order for similar offending.

Some of the charges which predated the parole order related to an incident where Cole assaulted a young woman and her mother, threatening to kill the former partner and damaging a garage door with his fists during the tirade.

Cole also told the woman his family would “get her,” and she would “regret this”.

The court heard on a different occasion, Cole bit a former partner on her face and stomach, and on another occasion punched a woman in the face, splitting both lips.

Solicitor Alysha Jacobson said Cole accepted he needed help and that his behavior was unacceptable, however the bites occurred in the context of consensual intercourse, and during other violent incidents, all parties were struggling with their mental health.

She said Cole had no intention of recommencing a relationship with either of the aggrieved and planned to relocate to North Queensland for a fresh start in the New Year.

Magistrate Michelle Dooley told Cole his offending was serious, especially given his history which included a two year probation order for a previous assault occasioning bodily harm, as well as being subject to a parole order for some of the offending.

Ms Dooley urged Cole to find something worthwhile and meaningful to do with his time upon his release and warned him that if he breached her orders by committing further offences he would find himself back in custody.

Cole was sentenced to a two year suspended sentence, a two year probation order, and the 220 days he served were taken into account.

He was released on parole.
