A Buderim mechanic has been described as “egotistical” and “angry” after he assaulted two women and an elderly man on the Sunshine Coast.

Christopher Dean Tuohy, 46, was given three years prison to be released on parole on August 30, 2022, in Maroochydore District Court on July 21, 2022.

Crown prosecutor Madalyn Olivero said on August 30, 2021, Tuohy snatched the mobile phone from a woman in her 40s and said “I’ll kill you in your sleep”.

He yelled and punched a hole in a door before a woman in her 20s told him to stop.

Tuohy walked towards her, grabbed her by the throat, pushed her against the wall and squeezed her throat.

“He choked her for approximately five seconds, she urinated on herself and thought she was going to die,” Ms Olivero said.

The woman in her 40s broke Tuohy’s grip but he mounted her and started to choke her.

She screamed but was still able to breathe, the court heard.

He punched the older woman twice in her back.

A man in his 80s came over and Tuohy grabbed hold of his throat and applied pressure for two to three seconds before pushing him backwards, causing him to hit his head on the wall.

Ms Olivero said the elderly man tried to call the police but Tuohy snatched the phone and smashed it.

When speaking to police, Tuohy initially stated that it didn’t happen and spent a total of 325 days in presentence custody.

Judge Glen Cash suggested Tuohy was an “angry, egotistical, self-indulgent man” to which defence barrister David Crews said it was “probably a good assessment”.

Mr Crews said his client was a father and was exposed to violence in his childhood.

“He said he has a shocking temper,” Mr Crews said.

Tuohy pleaded guilty to one count of choking, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, three counts of common assault, serious assault of a person over 60, threatening violence and two counts of wilful damage.
