COUNCIL officers have recommended Sunshine Coast Council give the green light to the Big Pineapple’s master plan.
Councillors will vote at next Thursday’s ordinary meeting to decide if preliminary approval will be given to the plan.
Council officers found the application to be sufficiently compatible with the existing rural and historic tourist related use of the site, and didn’t raise any issues that couldn’t addressed by “reasonable and relevant conditions”.
The Big Pineapple told the Daily in October that a renewal of the site would include new food-based businesses, adventure and recreation activities as well as accommodation.
“Delivering a transformative project takes time and ongoing investment, and we are adding new attractions year on year,” Big Pineapple management said in a statement.
“Visitors will again be able to climb inside the Big Pineapple structure when interior restoration is complete.”
The public was invited to make submissions regarding the development application between September 24 and November 6 last year.
Of the 36 submissions that Council deemed properly made, 12 were against the proposed development, 23 were for the proposed development, and one was unable to be determined.
