Awards showcase excellence at two north Brisbane schools

Two north Brisbane primary schools have been announced as regional winners in Queensland’s 2019 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools.

TWO north Brisbane primary schools have been announced as regional winners in Queensland’s 2019 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools.

Boondall State School won the award for Parent and Community Engagement and Bald Hills State School won the award for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education.

Now in its 20th year, the awards are regarded as the most prestigious educational awards in Queensland, shining a light on schools who demonstrate excellence in education, innovation and leadership.

Member for Nudgee Leanne Linard offered her congratulations to Boondall State School.

“This is a significant accolade for Boondall State School, and provides some well-deserved recognition for the school’s principal, staff and dedicated Parents and Citizens Association,” Ms Linard said.

Member for Aspley Bart Mellish praised Bald Hills State School for its award for its Turrwan Circle.

“Bald Hills State School have built a fantastic addition to the school and the whole community with their Turrwan Circle,” Mr Mellish said.

“The circle is a great tool for improving the understanding and respect of indigenous culture and I’m so glad they are receiving recognition and further support for the initiative.”

Both schools will receive a $2000 development grant and will compete in the next round of the competition, with state finalists announced on July 29.

State award winners will be announced on October 25.
