‘Worst rental experience ever, RUN’: Qld tenant writes scathing review on rental wall

A warning left for potential tenants in a north Brisbane rental property has gone viral after a former tenant described the home as “cockroach infested” and the “worst rental experience ever”, with thousands of people around the world praising the former tenant for the initiative.

Reddit user u/ViolinistNatural4852 shared a post with a photo of the warning, with “the text my husband found at a rental inspection”.

“He didn’t even check the rest of the house. He just left after taking the picture,” she said.

Writing in red pen on a shiny surface, the former tenant warned potential tenants there was mould in the bathroom, the window hinges were broken, the downstairs area was noisy with no soundproofing, paint was peeling in the bathroom and the house was infested with cockroaches, among other things.

Speaking to The Courier-Mail, the former tenant said they didn’t expect their exit review to go viral.

“I simply wanted to warn people that they should steer clear unless they are desperate,” they said.

“We’ve been unhappy since day one and we just felt deceived and unsatisfied.

Hundreds of commenters praised the former tenant for warning potential tenants of issues with the property.

“I’m dealing with this now. Got very sick due to hidden mould in walls and floor caused by a roof leak,” a commenter wrote.

In another comment, a potential tenant said they went to an inspection with the tenant already there, with the tenant encouraging them not to listen to what the real estate agents say about the home, describing the exchange as “rehearsed”.

“To this day even in this rental crisis the building is constantly rolling through tenants. Massive bullet dodged,” the commenter wrote.
