Bruce Hwy reopens after fatal crash near Maryborough

An elderly woman has been killed and another flown to a Brisbane hospital in a serious condition after a crash between a car and RV on the Bruce Hwy near Maryborough.

The Bruce Highway has been closed near Maryborough after a serious crash.

AN ELDERLY woman has been killed in a crash that left several others injured and caused the Bruce Highway to close in both directions near Maryborough.

The highway has since reopened.

Four people were assessed by paramedics following a crash involving a car and a motorhome on the Bruce Highway at Tinana about 9.50am.

The 74-year-old woman who was driving the red Toyota Corolla sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Maryborough Hospital in a critical condition. She was declared dead upon arrival.

The passenger of the car, a 81-year-old woman, was rushed to Hervey Bay Hospital in a serious condition.

Her condition has worsened to critical and she has been taken by rescue helicopter to Brisbane.

Police blocked both directions of the Bruce Highway north of the Gympie Road exit at Tinana while the forensic crash unit investigated.

Preliminary investigations indicate the red Toyota Corolla was heading north on the Lindah Road West on-ramp, onto the Bruce Highway, when it collided with the white motorhome travelling north on the Bruce Highway.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to contact police.

Two other adults sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital in stable condition.
