A Wynnum RSL worker who witnessed the “traumatic” moment an elderly woman was struck by a car while crossing the road has revealed how bystanders rushed to help the injured 87-year-old.
The Capalaba woman remains in a critical condition after she was hit by a Honda Jazz as she crossed Tingal Road at Wynnum on Sunday afternoon.
Wynnum RSL assistant manager Breanna Sumner rushed out with other patrons to help the woman who was “well-known to the club”.
She said within minutes of the incident at 1.30pm, a nurse driving past stopped to help the woman who was conscious but disorientated.
“She was very disorientated and didn’t have any recollection of what was going on. It was quite traumatic,” Ms Sumner said.
Police officers and paramedics arrived shortly after and the woman was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The 30-year-old male driver was not physically injured.
Ms Sumner wished the woman a quick recovery and thanked all those stopped to help.
“We’re just wishing her the best and a speedy recovery,” she said.
“Thanks to all the bystanders who stopped to help. It’s nice to see the community come together and help someone in need.”
Queensland Police said this morning that investigations into the crash were continuing.
Police urged anyone who may have witnessed, or have footage of the crash, to come forward.
